Why does my Omnitracs-connected fleet's location update every 4–5 minutes instead of every minute?

This is expected behavior driven by Omnitracs' own publishing cadence, not a Catena polling issue.

Most ELD/TSP providers make new location data available roughly once a minute, and Catena polls accordingly (see "How often is my carriers' location data updated?"). Omnitracs is a documented exception.

What's happening

Catena polls Omnitracs every 60 seconds, same as other providers. However, Omnitracs itself only makes new location data available approximately every 4–5 minutes. Catena only writes to the database and fires a webhook when new location data is actually available, so the visible update frequency for Omnitracs-connected fleets reflects Omnitracs' publish cadence, not a gap in Catena's polling or a webhook delivery failure.

What this means for you

If you're building alerting or dashboards off Omnitracs location webhooks, expect update gaps of up to ~5 minutes as normal behavior, not a fault condition.

Additional field availability

Omnitracs also returns heading/direction data on raw location updates. Catena has added a Heading field to the data model, so this is now available going forward if you need directional data for tracking during lower-cadence periods.
