Why is a carrier's vehicle location showing as stale or not updating?

Troubleshoot stale location data across carrier fleet connections.

There are several reasons location data may appear stale:

  • The vehicle is stationary. Some TSPs (notably Motive) do not send updated location records when a vehicle is not moving. The last recorded location remains until the vehicle moves again.
  • The connection has staled. This means the ELD credentials the carrier used to connect have expired or been revoked on the TSP side. When a connection stales, Catena stops fetching new data. The carrier must re-authenticate using their original magic link to restore the connection. See article 3.6 for more on stale connections.
  • There may be an active incident or maintenance on the TSP's side. Check the TSP's status page if the entire carrier fleet shows stale data.

If the issue persists and none of the above explains it, submit a support ticket with the fleet ID and the affected vehicle IDs.
